Il Symposium è stato organizzato in occasione della mostra “The Trauma of Painting” al Museo Guggenheim. Pubblichiamo l’intervista realizzata da noi di Tracce Cahiers d'Art ad ottobre 2015 al prof. Ernest Ialongo, moderatore e co-organizzatore con la prof. Emily Braun del Symposium.

Prof. Ernest Ialongo: Marianna, in response to your questions:
1) I can only guess why Americans would like Burri. For a better answer I would contact the curator Emily Braun. However, the show is excellently curated, the viewer gets a clear sense of the evolution of Burri's art, and they are met with a full range of work that demands a deep attention to see what Burri was attempting. I think this will continue to draw in audiences.
2) The symposium is meant to do a number of things. First, it is meant to draw attention to the exhibit and Emily Braun will explain the organization of the exhibit, what the audience would see, and why Burri may not be known to many people. Second, it is meant to put the artist and his influence into a broader context. Thus, Ruth Ben-Ghiat will give us an idea of what Burri's prisoner of war experience may have been like. Howard Singerman will investigate the influence of Burri on postwar European art, and his place within that artwork. Noa Steimatsky will delve into the connections between neorealism and Burri's work. And finally Robert Storr will survey Burri's influence in contemporary art. Collectively we hope to give our general audience an introduction to the exhibit and to Burri himself. Best, Errnest

1) Posso solo immaginare perché gli americani vorrebbero Burri. Per una risposta migliore vorrei contattare il curatore Emily Braun. Tuttavia, lo spettacolo è ottimamente curata, lo spettatore diventa un chiaro senso dell'evoluzione dell'arte di Burri, e sono incontrato con una gamma completa di lavoro che richiede una profonda attenzione per vedere che cosa stava tentando Burri. Penso che questo continuerà a disegnare in udienze.
2) Il simposio è destinata a fare una serie di cose. In primo luogo, essa ha lo scopo di attirare l'attenzione sulla mostra ed Emily Braun spiegherà l'organizzazione della mostra, quello che il pubblico avrebbe visto, e perché Burri può non essere noto a molte persone. In secondo luogo, essa ha lo scopo di mettere l'artista e la sua influenza in un contesto più ampio. Così, Ruth Ben-Ghiat ci darà un'idea di ciò che prigionieri di Burri di esperienza di guerra potrebbe essere stato come. Howard Singerman studierà l'influenza di Burri sull'arte europea del dopoguerra, e il suo posto all'interno di tale opere d'arte.
